Brest State Technical University hosted a series of meetings as part of the Unified Information Day. The central theme of the dialogue with students and staff was one of the key dates in the history of Belarusian statehood: "National Unity Day as a Factor of National Pride."
The meeting was led by Denis Viktorovich Budnik, a deputy of the Brest City Council of Deputies (29th convocation). In an open dialogue format, he outlined the historical background of the holiday. Students were presented with a comparative analysis of the development of Western Belarus (while part of Poland) versus the BSSR (within the Soviet Union) regarding industrial, cultural, and educational potential. The speaker paid particular attention to instances of the ethnocide of Belarusians within the territory of the Second Polish Republic. Denis Viktorovich emphasized that the Red Army’s liberation campaign on September 17, 1939, enabled our people to preserve their statehood and national identity, serving as an act of historical justice.
Also addressing the students were Anna Tarasovna Onishchuk, Chair of the Brest City Council of Veterans, and Ivan Nikolaevich Shulga — a council member, head of the "Valor. Honor. Fatherland" information and outreach group, and a retired lieutenant colonel. Representatives of the older generation shared personal memories and reflections on the price their ancestors paid for the right to live on a united land. The speakers highlighted the importance of preserving historical truth and the unacceptability of distorting facts regarding the Great Patriotic War and the events of 1939. The conversation took place in a warm atmosphere of generational continuity.
The Unified Information Day concluded with a meeting featuring Alexander Alexandrovich Korkotadze — a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and Director of the "Brest Hero-Fortress" Memorial Complex. Alexander Alexandrovich noted that National Unity Day is not merely a tribute to the past but also a powerful factor in uniting society today. He recalled that the country’s modern territorial boundaries were shaped precisely by the events of September 1939, and that the heroism of the fortress’s defenders became an eternal symbol of the people’s unyielding spirit.
