BrSTU is a leading educational and research center which trains highly qualified specialists in the field of construction, mechanical engineering, information technologies, economics and ecology, as well as in the development of innovations in science, technology and higher education.
The history of Brest State Technical University (hereinafter – BrSTU; the University) began with the adoption of a joint Decree of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR №533 dated September 5, 1963 approving the foundation of Brest Civil Engineering Institute. The educational institution was opened on April 1, 1966 according to the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR №129 dated March 3, 1966.
The University includes 2 colleges: Educational Institution «Brest State Polytechnic College» and Educational Institution «Pinsk State Industrial and Pedagogical College».
The University is made up of 5 faculties and 28 departmentsincluding the Military Department.
The training of specialist is conducted in 14 specialties of secondary special education, 21 specialty of general higher education, 4 specialties of special higher education, 13 specialties of advanced higher education (Master’s degree). The training of academic staff is realized in 13 specialties of postgraduate studies and 3 doctoral studies.
The Institute of Professional Development and Retraining is an integral part of BrSTU which:
- provides the retraining of the senior staff and specialists;
- conducts advanced training of the senior staff and specialists;
- runs training courses and seminars.
The University provides education to more than 7000 students including more than 300 foreign students from 23 countries.
The University has implemented and operates the quality management system complying with the requirements of STB ISO 9001-2015.
In 2020 the Council for Doctoral and Candidate Theses Defense D.02.09.01 in its new composition was opened in BrSTU.
The University is a certified scientific institution. It has the certificates of conformity to carry out engineering surveys, to function as a general engineer, to inspect buildings and constructions.
The University publishes a scientific journal «Vestnik of Brest State Technical University», included in the list of HAC editions that are recommended for publishing the results of scientific research. The journal is included in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). «Vestnik of Brest State Technical University» has successfully passed the multidimensional evaluation process and is indexed in the ICI Journals Master List database. BrSTU ranks 6263 among the world’s universities according to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. It holds the 19th position in the list of Belarusian universities
The University has two successfully functioning industrial laboratories:
- «Identification Systems and Industrial Robotics»;
- «The Research Centre of Innovations in Construction».
On the basis of the laboratories the students carry out technical projects which are widely implemented at the largest enterprises of the Republic of Belarus.

Brest State Technical University is the founder of Brest Science and Technology Park.
Over 1000 patents for inventions and utility models have been obtained during the existence of the University.
Brest State Technical University is the head implementing organization of the regional scientific and technical program «Innovative Development of the Brest Region» for 2021-2025.
International cooperation is one of the priority directions of BrSTU. The University has more than 160 partnership agreements with educational institutions from 33 countries of the world.
The Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China registered a joint educational program of BrSTU and Xinxiang University on training students at first level of higher education in the specialty «Engineering Technology».
The University cooperates with the International Graduates Association of Higher Education Institutions.
Brest State Technical University implements joint educational programs with:
- Huh-Hoto Vocational Institute (PRC) - general and advanced higher education;
- Coruña University (Spain) - advanced higher education;
- Xinxiang University (PRC) - general higher education;
- Kazakh National Agrarian University (Kazakhstan) - advanced higher education.
In 2023, for the first time in the history of BrSTU an agreement on cooperation in the field of education, science and culture was concluded with the University of Moa (Republic of Cuba).

- Folklore Theatre «Skarbnitsa»;
- Literary and Musical Center «Rodnaya Mova»;
- Folk Dance Group «Krutuha»;
- Pop Dance Group «Edelvejs»;
- Pop Dance Studio «DIVA»;
- Folk and Pop Singing Studio (Vocal Group «Sensation», Folk Song Ensemble «Melnitsa», leading singers);
- Folk Instruments Ensemble «Ekspromt»;
- Instrumental Ensemble of Pop Music «Techno Band»;
- Original Genre Studio «De Force».
At a high-performing level, the art groups present their creative work at the national festival of artistic creativity of student youth «ART-VAKATSYІ», where they are awarded numerous diplomas and the highest award of the festival – the Grand Prix diploma.
In the university, students are actively involved in student volunteer construction groups. According to the results of 2022 the student volunteer construction group «Spadchyna - 2022» named after P.M. Masherov, the Hero of the Soviet Union, was recognized as the best one in Brest, in the Brest region, and at the republican level. The group worked at the All-Belarusian youth construction site, the State Memorial Complex «Khatyn».
Students actively participate in the sports life of the university. Various sports sections work in BSTU. These are arm wrestling, basketball, boxing, wrestling, sambo, volleyball, handball, judo, karate, CrossFit, mini-football, table tennis, powerlifting, swimming, chess, sports aerobics, and kettlebell lifting. Three masters of sports and 15 candidates for master of sports have been trained at the university from among the student-athletes.
There are youth public associations in the university:
- primary organisation «BRSM Youth Union» having the rights of the district committee;
- youth formation of law-enforcement protection;
- volunteer movement.
AWARDS
In compliance with the Decree of the Head of State №153 dated April 26, 2022, Brest State Technical University was inscribed on the Republican Board of Honour for achieving the best performance in the field of socio-economic development among educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus in 2021.
In compliance with the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus «On awarding the Prize of the Government of the Republic of Belarus for achievements in the field of quality in 2021» №264 dated April 28, 2022, Brest State Technical University was awarded the Prize of the Government of the Republic of Belarus for achievements in the field of quality in 2021 for obtaining significant results in the field of quality and competitiveness of manufactured products, rendered services or performed activities, as well as the introduction of innovative technologies and modern methods of management.
In 2021 Brest State Technical University was awarded the Prize of the Brest Regional Executive Committee for achieving significant results in the field of quality and competitiveness of manufactured products, performed activities and rendered services, as well as the introduction of highly effective methods of quality management.
Brest State Technical University was recognised as the winner of the competition for achieving the best results in the implementation of the main target indicators of the forecast of socio-economic development among science and education organisations of the Brest region. The decision of the Brest Regional Executive Committee №281 dated May 26, 2022 «On inscribing the winners of the competition in 2021 on the Board of Honour of the Brest region» was signed by the Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Yuri Vitoldovich Shuleiko.
The staff of Brest State Technical University was awarded the Certificate of Honour of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus for its significant contribution to the implementation of the state policy in the field of intellectual property rights protection.
The staff of Brest State Technical University was awarded the Certificate of Honour of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus for significant contribution to the implementation of state and regional scientific projects in the field of environmental protection and rational nature management, training of highly professional specialists.
Brest State Technical University was recognised as the best and awarded the Grand Prix in the nomination «Education» of the award «Leader of the Year 2023» for the high level of specialist training, as well as the introduction of modern educational technologies, development of international cooperation and scientific activity.
