On September 2, 2026, the Ceremonial Square of the "Brest Hero-Fortress" memorial complex became the focal point for freshmen from Brest State Technical University (BrSTU). A solemn ceremony was held to officially induct the first-year students into the university community.
The morning began with a symbolic formation. Accompanied by the sounds of a military band, representatives of the university administration, distinguished guests, and hundreds of freshmen—led by their deans and academic mentors—marched to the Ceremonial Square. The event opened with a moving recitation by student Eva Loskutova. Before the ceremony began, students and distinguished guests laid flowers and observed a minute of silence to honor the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Belarus.
Distinguished guests addressed the freshmen with words of encouragement and guidance: Vitaly Konstantinovich Shcherba, Deputy Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee; and Alexander Alexandrovich Korkotadze, a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and Director of the memorial complex.
The highlight of the official proceedings was the student oath. The freshmen pledged to uphold BrSTU’s traditions, master the knowledge accumulated by humanity, embody honesty and discipline, wear the title of "student" with pride, and serve as worthy citizens of the Republic of Belarus.
Immediately following the oath, the ceremonial presentation of the freshmen's most important documents—their student ID cards—took place.
While the formal ceremony at the Ceremonial Square concluded, the celebratory program for the freshmen continued. In keeping with a cherished university tradition, all participants then proceeded to the Garrison Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. A festive prayer service was held at the church to mark the start of the academic year, offering students, clergy, and faculty the opportunity to receive a blessing for diligent study and future achievements. The service was led by Archbishop Ioann of Brest and Kobrin.
We congratulate our first-year students on this new chapter in their lives and wish them success in their studies and academic pursuits!
